Essays on Various Subjects, by the Author of Reflections on the Seven Days of the Week (1772) is a miscellany consisting of the majority of the literary output of the early Bluestocking correspondent and essayist, Catherine Talbot (1721–70). The core of the work is a collection of twenty-six essays on subjects ranging from Anglican piety and appropriate feminine conduct to literary critical discussions of Matthew Prior’s “Henry and Emma” (1709) and the published sermons of Isaac Barrow (1630–77).
