Refus global or Total Refusal is a manifesto composed of artistic texts and lithographs, and published in Montreal by the Éditions Mythra-Mythe on August 9, 1948. The richness and multidisciplinary nature of this work are the result of the collaboration of several automatist artists from Quebec. Among them are: Paul-Émile Borduas, a painter and the author of the first three texts in the collection, the most famous of which is the eponymous manifesto “Refus global”; Claude Gauvreau, poet and playwright, who wrote three theatrical texts; and finally Bruno Cormier, Françoise Sullivan and Fernand Leduc, who enriched the collection with three other theoretical and poetic articles.
