Corrierino delle famiglie (1954) is Giovannino Guareschi’s third compendium of tales centering on family life that the author had originally written over the span of six years, from 1948 to 1954, for his eponymous column in Candido, the weekly newspaper he edited. The same fictionalized characters found in La scoperta di Milano (1942) and Lo Zibaldino (1948) still abound: a self-stylized Giovannino who heads a household that his wife Margherita (Ennia) and two children, an introspective teenaged son, Albertino, and feisty daughter La Pasionaria (Carlotta), truly govern.
