Neil Gaiman's comics series The Sandman chronicles the story of Morpheus, a mythical personification of dreaming. The series employs a great variety of genres, narrative modes and literary traditions. Both commercially and critically, it is one of the most successful comics of all times and The Sandman is generally hailed as one of the first mainstream series to establish comics as an aesthetic medium.
