The Dodsley brothers published two versions of Select Fables: an ordinary version, printed in London for the use of schools, price three shillings; and an elegant version, printed by the celebrated, Birmingham type-founder and printer, John Baskerville (1706-75), price five shillings. The Dodsleys published a second edition in 1764 and James Dodsley published a third, in 1776, 12 years after his brother’s death. Many reprints of this edition appeared in England and the United States through the remainder of the eighteenth, and first quarter of the nineteenth, century.
