Siegfried Lenz’ novel Fundbüro (in English “Lost and Found” or “property office”) was first published in 2003. The story of Henry Neff is told from a third-person narrator perspective, but the narrator is neither omniscient, nor overtly subjective: he keeps a certain distance from Henry, so that the reader hardly ever learns directly what Henry thinks. Unlike much of Lenz’s work, the novel is narrated on just one time level, beginning with the appearance of Henry in the property office.
