The First Dutch Barrier Treaty is signed with Britain, whose position has been negotiated by Townshend. This involved the Dutch promising to support the Hanoverian Protestant succession in Britain, while Britain undertook to help the United Provinces garrison nine fortified places in the Spanish Netherlands, as well ten others if they regained them from the French.
