Laura Fish is the pseudonym of Laura Betton-Rodber; born in 1964 in London of Jamaican and Guyanese parentage, she was bought up by white foster parents. She is a creative writing lecturer at Northumbria University in Northumbria, UK, having been awarded an MA in Creative Writing in 2002, then a PhD in 2007, both from the University of East Anglia. Fish has published two novels to date: Flight of Black Swans (1995) and Strange Music (2008), a historical novel, the background for which Fish researched as part of her PhD.
