Giulio Cesare Croce was a poet, writer, playwright and cantastorie (troubadour or storyteller), active principally in Bologna between 1568 and 1609. His output, in a great variety of genres and markedly plurilingual, comprises almost five hundred works: romances, plays, songs, laments, predictions, jokes and other genres of prose and poetry.

Croce was born in the town of San Giovanni in Persiceto, near Bologna, in 1550.
