Joanna Pollakówna was an art historian, a poet, and an essayist. Her lyrical poems stemmed from the world of visual arts by which she was captivated as an art historian. She produced ekphrases, or poems about paintings, using language to describe the visual arts. Her poems “‘Pietà’ Tycjana” [“Titian’s ‘Pietà’”] and “‘Pietà’ Belliniego” [“Bellini’s ‘Pietà’”] are just two examples.
