Wendy Rose (b. 1948), primarily known as a poet, is a political activist, artist, anthropologist, and educator. She has taught at California State University, Fresno, and Fresno City College. Currently, she and her husband, Arthur Murata, own “Oh Grow Up”, a collectibles store in Coarsegold, California. Rose has voiced the concerns of urban Indians, articulated the difficulties of negotiating a multi-racial identity in the contemporary world, and critiqued colonialism’s devastations to American Indians.

Born in Oakland, California to Betty Webb who was of Miwok, Irish, and Scottish descent, Rose’s paternal parentage is uncertain. Her mother was married to Dick Edwards (whose grandmother was one of “Bidwell’s Indians”…
