The Austrian writer Peter Rosegger is a major representative of the regional literature of German-speaking lands, known as Heimatliteratur (homeland literature), or more generally Heimatkunst (homeland art). Heimat stories are also known as Kalender- (calendar) or Dorf- (village) geschichten. Rosegger wrote essays, folk plays and volumes of poetry, but is best known for his narrative prose.
