Anne Dutton was an influential figure in the early Evangelical Revival in England and America, contributing over fifty volumes of published theological works. Dutton’s essays, letters, and poetry were particularly important to the Calvinistic branch of the Methodist movement and the evangelism of George Whitefield (1714-1770). Through her writing, she became a highly respected theologian throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

She was born Anne Williams sometime around 1692, but the exact date is unknown. Her first church was the Independent Church of Castle Hill in Northamptonshire, and her first pastor was John Hunt. She was baptized at age eighteen by John Moore at Baptist Church, College Lane (Bullock, 2004)…
