Mary Pix (1666-1709) was a playwright and novelist. It seems likely that she was born in Nettlebed, Oxfordshire. Her father, Roger Griffith, may have been the Rev. Roger Griffith, vicar of Padbury and Headmaster of the Royal Latin School in Buckingham; her mother Lucy, née Berriman, originated from Soundess in the parish of Nettlebed, Oxfordshire. There is a comment in Giles Jacob's Poetical Register that Mary Pix “by her Mother's side was descended from a very considerable family, that of the Wallis's” (Giles Jacob, The Poetical Register , London: 1719, l, 203), but that is the only extant reference to this genealogy.
