Written in less than a year and published in 1950, La Petite Poule d’Eau (Where Nests the Water Hen) is a novel composed of three distinct, though complementary, stories. In Œuvres complètes’ (2009) introduction dedicated to Gabrielle Roy’s second novel, it is said that, although the stories are separated by different titles, they complete and explain one another.
