Eavan Boland’s writing life as a poet can be understood as an ascending arc of accomplishments, from her first book, New Territory (1967), described by Derek Mahon as “a startling poetic debut”, through her New Collected Poems (2005), which Anne Fogarty praised as “a timely reminder of the significance and innovatory force of Boland’s achievement” (Campbell and O’Mahony, 19).
