During her time as writer-in-residence at the Brontë Parsonage Museum in 2013 and 2014, Jackie Kay provided “workshops, readings and performances” (Armitage 1), as the Writers in Residence - A Practical Guide for Writers and Organisations in London stipulates, which can certainly be seen as transferable to other institutions throughout the United Kingdom and beyond. Frequently, a writer-in-residence is also “commissioned to write a piece about an organisation and its staff, which is displayed as a piece of public art” (Armitage 9).

Indeed, Kay’s residency ended with an exhibition at the Brontë Parsonage Museum, during which “a series of linked poems” (Meftah, n.pag.) …
