The Wandering Falcon is Jamil Ahmad’s first and only work of fiction. It was published in 2011 when he was 79, only three years before he passed away in 2014, aged 83. This novel is an essence of the author’s experiences as a civil servant. Ahmad joined the Civil Services of Pakistan as an officer in 1954. During his long career, Ahmad held key posts in the tribal areas along Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and Iran. He was stationed in various regions, including Quetta in the south-west, Waziristan, Malakand and the Swat valley in the north-western province of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.
