Space Dumplins, the fourth book by comic book artist and writer, Scott Thompson, was a surprising departure considering his trend for ever-more epic creations. After the award-winning success of Blankets (2004), he turned his attention to the Middle-Eastern saga, Habibi (2011), which met a more mixed reception from readers and critics. The work clearly took its toll on Thompson, who writes, “Habibi took seven years—two years of writing, four years of drawing, and another year of production, design, and pre-press duties.
