The Duke's Children is the sixth of Anthony Trollope's “Palliser novels”, a series of long and loosely interconnected works that deal with the contemporary political scene. Each novel features Plantagenet Palliser and his wife Lady Glencora as either major or minor characters. At the end of the fifth Palliser novel, The Prime Minister, Plantagenet and Glencora, who have become the Duke and Duchess of Omnium, retire into private life after the fall of the coalition government in which the Duke served as Prime Minister.
