The Pilgrim’s Progress from this world, to that which is to come: Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream, Wherein is Discovered, The Manner of his setting out, His Dangerous Journey, and Safe Arrival at the Desired Country was published in two parts, the first in 1678 and the second in 1686. For over two centuries it was a best-seller, a religious classic perhaps more than a literary classic. Even now, while not the most popular work in the literary canon, it continues to attract critical attention, and to be expounded, adapted, simplified and illustrated for the Christian market.
