88 Poems (1979), edited by Nicholas Gerogiannis, is a compilation of all the known poems written by Ernest Hemingway, from a juvenile piece written in 1912 and preserved in a family scrapbook to a final unpublished poem attributed to 1956. In between are contributions to the newspaper and literary magazine of Hemingway's high school, the poetic contents of his first book, Three Stories and Ten Poems (1923), contributions to little magazines during the 1920s, and a number of poems, often deeply personal, never intended for publication.
The editor of the collection admits that “it would be a mistake to attribute much importance to these poems in the artistic development of Ernest Hemingway.” The high school poems …
