The 1864-5 monthly serialisation of Anthony Trollope’s Can You Forgive Her? for Chapman and Hall marked one of the most creative and productive periods of his life. In 1862 and 1863 alone, Trollope had either finished or worked on Orley Farm (1862), Brown, Jones, and Robinson (1862), The Small House at Allington (1862), Rachel Ray (1863), and The Tales of All Countries (1863).
