Der Antichrist[The Anti-Christ, written 1888, published 1895] can also be translated as “The Anti-Christian” and focuses primarily, as the title suggests, on Nietzsche’s anti-Christian philosophical critique. Kathleen M. Higgins and Bernd Magnus in The Cambridge Companion to Nietzsche refer to the work as offering an “historical and psychological account of the development of Christianity from Judaism” and emphasize the sharp distinction that Nietzsche draws between the institution of Christianity that developed under Paul and the teachings of Jesus (55).
