Homage to Catalonia is Orwell’s account of his time fighting Fascists in Spain at the start of the Spanish Civil war. Even readers already committed to liking Orwell may find it a long reach back to Homage to Catalonia; they may find it dated and have little interest in the political details. If they do extend themselves, however, they will find enough there of interest, although some of the detailed political information may not seem sufficient reward for the effort. For example, the book often goes into intricate detail about the various groups operating in Spain, and a reader not already familiar with some of the historical situation, and some of the groups mentioned, may find it a struggle to differentiate the POUM …
