The Night of the Iguana is a 1961 play by Tennessee Williams (1911-1983), which was made into a 1964 film directed by John Huston and starring Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and Deborah Kerr. The play premiered on Broadway at the Royale Theatre on December 28, 1961, and ran for 316 performances. It was directed by Frank Corsaro and starred Patrick O’Neal as Shannon, Bette Davis as Maxine (later Shelley Winters), Margaret Leighton as Hannah, and Alan Webb as Nonno. The play received Tony Award nominations for Best Play and Best Producer, and Leighton won the Tony for Best Actress.
