F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last, incomplete novel is now available in two slightly different versions. The first version, The Last Tycoon: An Unfinished Novel, edited by the influential American critic Edmund Wilson (1895-1972), was published on 27 October 1941 by Charles Scribner’s Sons, ten months after Fitzgerald’s death at the age of 44 on 21 December 1940. The second version, The Love of the Last Tycoon: A Western, edited by the leading Fitzgerald scholar and biographer Matthew J. Bruccoli (born 1931), appeared in 1993 in the Cambridge Edition of the Works of F. Scott Fitzgerald.
