Until today, there are some surprises waiting for us in the exploration of medieval literature, or narratives at large. Of course, it does not happen often at all that we come across a text entirely new to us because already nineteenth-century scholarship had worked very hard and thoroughly in uncovering the past. That scholarly work, however, used to be mostly positivistic in its research, and modern research since then has gone through many new stages of theoretical and pragmatic investigations of the vast gamut of medieval texts, whether we think of Marxist readings, feminist and gender approaches, or, more recently, ecocritical concepts in the study of medieval literature.
