Clemence Dane C.B.E. born Winifred Ashton (1888-1965) was a middlebrow dramatist, novelist, scriptwriter, and journalist and a vocal advocate for women’s rights, holding strongly progressive views on gender-political issues. In 1926 she published The Women’s Side, a collection of ten of her polemical articles originally written for Good Housekeeping magazine.
