As Visitas do Dr. Valdez [Dr Valdez' Visits] is the second novel written by the Mozambican author João Paulo Borges Coelho, published in 2004. In this work the writer and historian puts his knowledge about the colonial and civil wars in Mozambique to good use by creating a plot tightly related to the end of colonialism and the transition to independence of this former Portuguese colony. The plot is mostly built around three main characters: Vicente, the servant; Sá Caetana, the mistress in charge of the family, and Sá Amélia, the mistress who lost her power through madness.
