Mrityukshudha [Deathly Hunger or Hunger for Death], published in translation as Love and Death in Krishnanagar, is Kazi Nazrul Islam’s second novel. It was serialized in Saogat [The Gift] from November 1927 and was published in book form in 1930. It is similar to his other two novels in having a rebel hero and a triangular love affair. Though in Bandhon Hara [Unfettered], the hero is a soldier in the British Indian Army, his rebellious nature is described several times. In Nazrul’s last novel, Kuhelika [The Revolutionary] (1931), the hero is a revolutionary. In Mrityukshudha, the hero is a Bolshevik.
