A Dance with Dragons (2011) is the fifth novel in George R.R. Martin’s grimdark fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire (1996-present). The book is expected to be followed up by the final two volumes in the series, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. A Dance with Dragons was released in the same year that the popular HBO adaptation of the series, Game of Thrones (2011-2019) premiered. Much of A Dance with Dragons is adapted as the show’s fifth season. The novel was a commercial success, topping many bestseller lists. It received Hugo and World Fantasy Award nominations, and it won the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel.
