Le Chien is the first play written solo by Franco-Ontarian actor and playwright Jean Marc Dalpé. It was presented in a public reading in September 1987 during the Sommet de la francophonie taking place in Quebec City. In 1988, it was produced by the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario for a first showing in Sudbury. Several other performances followed in 1989: in the Spring, in Montreal, during the Festival de théâtre des Amériques; in the Fall, in Avignon (France), during the Festival des Francophonies. That same year, it was translated by Dalpé and Maureen Labonté in order to be shown at the Factory Theatre in Toronto; the cast was composed of Roy Dupuis (Jay), Hélène P…
