Le Chien is the first play written solo by Franco-Ontarian actor and playwright Jean Marc Dalpé. It was presented in a public reading in September 1987 during the Sommet de la francophonie taking place in Quebec City. In 1988, it was produced by the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario for a first showing in Sudbury. Several other performances followed in 1989: in the Spring, in Montreal, during the Festival de théâtre des Amériques; in the Fall, in Avignon (France), during the Festival des Francophonies.
