Men Without Women (1927) was Ernest Hemingway's second major collection of short stories. Coming after his first collection, In Our Time, (1925) and his successful novel, The Sun Also Rises (1926), Men Without Women helped to consolidate Hemingway's reputation as one of the major fiction writers of the 1920s.

Nick Adams, a character who had appeared in many of the stories of In Our Time, reappears in several stories in this second collection. In “The Killers” Nick witnesses an attempted murder by two professional killers in the Chicago suburb of Summit, Illinois.
