Cennino Cennini’s Il libro dell’arte [The Book of the Art] is today considered a primary reference for the study of art in medieval and early Renaissance Italy. It is widely read by students of art history and painting conservation as providing rare first-hand insights into the materials, methods and social position of Italian artists at the turn of the fifteenth century.
