Le bonheur a la queue glissante, published in 1998, marks Abla Farhoud’s first foray into the genre of the novel, having previously favoured theatre with six published plays written and performed in the 1980s and 1990s. Having been awarded the France-Québec-Philippe Roussillon prize the year following its publication, Le bonheur a la queue glissante [Happiness Has a Slippery Tail] (selected excerpts have been translated into English by Jill MacDougall, under the title “Dounia-a-World” in Dahab, 2002: 46-67) builds upon and further develops themes already approached by Farhoud in some of her earlier plays, in particular Les filles du 5-10-15 cents [The Girls from the 5-10-15 Cent Shop] (…
