True at First Light is Ernest Hemingway’s posthumous novel based on the African safari financed by Look magazine that the author undertook at age 54 with his fourth wife, Mary Welsh, in 1953-54. Though not a book that is usually ranked among the iconic author’s greatest works, it nevertheless provides many interesting insights about Hemingway’s life during his late years as well as contributing to our understanding of the writer’s attitude towards Africans, their cultural traditions, and their intriguing wildlife.
