Georges Bernanos (1888-1948), a prominent polemicist and French Catholic novelist in the first half of the 20^th century. Born in Paris and educated at the Sorbonne, he became known as an effective journalist for the conservative Action Française. After suffering a serious wound in World War I he became an inspector for an insurance company and traveled broadly in Northern France and Picardy on company assignments. In his journalistic work he supported the anti-materialist, anti-modernist, pro-nationalist and mildly authoritarian royalist predilection of the right-wing Action Française.
