The fourth Kate Atkinson novel depicting Jackson Brodie, Started Early, Took My Dog, was published in 2010. After Case Histories (2004), One Good Turn (2006), and When Will There Be Good News? (2008), Started Early, Took My Dog remains, for the time being, the final installment of the cases and life of Jackson Brodie. The title comes from a poem by Emily Dickinson and, true to Atkinson’s style, quotes from poems appear throughout the novel, sometimes from the unlikely lips of criminals and private detectives.
