V for Vendetta spins a dystopian tale about personal and political freedom, the importance of culture and aesthetics, and the role of the hero. It casts a bleak perspective on Thatcherite Britain, as it projects the course of British history a decade ahead from the 1980s and posits a totalitarian regime. The comic was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. Its first two books ran as a serialisation in the British comics magazine Warrior, between 1982-85, while the US comic publisher DC Comics published the complete series between 1988-89, and had the originally black and white comic colourised by Lloyd and Siobhan Dodds.
