The author of works written for audiences ranging from the court to the tavern, Hannah More was one of the most influential writers of her lifetime (1745-1833). More's publications were as far-reaching as they were voluminous, and none more so than her series of Cheap Repository Tracts. Written for a newly literate laboring class, the tracts promoted the conservative religious, political and social ideology of More and her circle to a class of readers unreached by her earlier treatises written for the upper and middling classes.
