In her seventeenth published novel, Digging to America, contemporary United States novelist Anne Tyler revisits many of her trademark themes and subject matter yet at the same time breaks new topical ground. As in her previous novels, Tyler transports her readers once again to the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, on the middle Atlantic coast of the United States. Once again these outskirt communities are populated with ordinary people possessing the quirks, fears, hopes, and ambitions that make them human.
