Published in 2007, Graham Swift’s eighth novel, Tomorrow, is an open-ended interior monologue, narrated with the subtle skill and controlled poignancy which have become trademarks of the work of this major contemporary novelist. Set in 1995, the novel focuses on the life story of a baby boomer: born in 1945, the protagonist and narrator, Paula Hook, née Campbell, is an upper-middle-class art dealer, mother of twins, and happily married for twenty-five years to Michael, a biologist-turned-publisher, whom she met when they were both students at Sussex University in the 1960s.
