To date, Lion Feuchtwanger’s best-selling historical novel Jud Süss [Power] has been translated into over twenty foreign languages and sold in more than three million copies, yet it had originally taken him two years to find a publisher before the Drei Masken Verlag finally brought out the novel in Munich in 1925. This was rapidly followed by an American edition, published as Power by Viking Press in New York in 1926, and a British edition, published as Jew Süss.
