Starman Jones (1953) – Max Jones leaves his marginal farm in the Ozarks and sets out to make a new life as a spaceman. He meets and teams up with a rogue who manages to sneak them into space as deckhands, and both make the best of their opportunities. Max’s trick memory saves the ship when a rival sabotages the navigation books, and he brings the ship safely back to earth as its captain.
