The working relationship between Hélène Cixous – best known as a feminist scholar, critic, and novelist – and the Théâtre du Soleil (the celebrated experimental theatre company led by Ariane Mnouchkine and based in the Cartoucherie, a former munitions factory on the outskirts of Paris) is one of the most prolific in contemporary French theatre.
