Charles Sorel’s comic novel L’Histoire comique de Francion [The Comical History of Francion, 2005] (1623, 1626, 1633) was one of the most republished texts in France during the seventeenth century. Although the Francion enjoyed an immediate and massive success at the time of its publication and was one of the most reprinted works of its century, this work subsequently disappeared during the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries.
