In their marketing of Ann-Marie MacDonald’s first novel, Fall on Your Knees, Knopf Canada sought to create a media spectacle, playing up what was, even then, MacDonald’s status as a Canadian literary celebrity. As Danielle Fuller points out, the book was launched as part of Knopf’s “The New Face of Fiction” campaign, which used photographs of the author as a way to sell books (45), and was heavily marketed in both Canada and international venues.
