Also known as Vlad the Impaler, or Vlad Dracul, he reigned as prince of Wallachia three times, in 1448, 1456–1462, and 1476, and maintained an independent policy in relation to the Ottoman Empire. Primarily known in the English-speaking world as the model for the Dracula vampire figure of Bram Stoker's eponymous novel of 1897.
