Michael Faraday's work on electro-magnetism forms the basis of electric-powered modern technology. Although he had little formal education, and lacked the mathematical skill to codify his work, his talent as an experimental scientist led him to build valuable pieces of equipment. Only the year after Danish scientist Oersted had discovered the magnetic field created by electric currents, Faraday constructed two devices that used the circular magnetic force around a wire to create a continuous circular motion.
